Macroeconomic Management Programme
Builds capacity in macroeconomic policy analysis, modelling and forecasting, and macroeconomic statistics for central banks and ministries of finance and planning across the MEFMI region.
Director: Dr. Austin Chiumia
The Macroeconomic Management Programme builds capacity in the analytical and policy skills that underpin sound economic management across the MEFMI region. It supports officials in central banks and ministries of finance and economic planning to strengthen macroeconomic policy formulation, surveillance and the production of reliable economic data.
Areas of focus
- Macroeconomic modelling and forecasting, including econometric techniques, equation estimation and model building using tools such as EViews
- Macroeconomic and financial statistics, data science and the strengthening of statistical systems
- Monetary policy analysis, financial programming and policy design
- Fiscal policy, public expenditure management and debt sustainability linkages
The programme is delivered through regional and in-country workshops, senior policy seminars, e-learning courses and technical assistance missions. For example, MEFMI has trained officials in Rwanda on macroeconomic modelling and forecasting, aligning the work with the priorities of its Phase VI Strategic Plan.
