A virtual regional workshop introducing data science methods for compiling reliable, timely macroeconomic statistics across the MEFMI region.
There is a need for reliable data to support planning, budgeting and the evaluation of activities essential for prudent economic management. To be useful, such data must be accurate, timely, disaggregated and widely accessible. Nowhere is the need for better data more urgent than in the MEFMI region.
While all member countries except Namibia (which is in the Special Data Dissemination Standard) participate in the Enhanced General Data Dissemination System, the building blocks for statistical systems in the region remain weak. The region faces data quality issues, limited data access and infrastructure, a shortage of skilled data professionals and cybersecurity concerns. Against this background, MEFMI conducts a virtual regional workshop introducing data science methods for macroeconomic statistics, helping the region leverage digitalisation and innovation for informed decision-making.
